Collage!

This collage represents my identity by giving clues as to what my personality is like. It also shows things that I like to do such as singing, writing poetry, listening to music, and modeling. I am a goofy, loving person who wants to live my life to the fullest. The various colors represent my colorful and playful personality as well. Although, I am a laid-back person, I still like to have fun. My favorite color is orange, my ethnicity is African-American, and my zodiac sign is Scorpio. I was born and raised in Burlington, NC. I am studying psychology at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and my friends call me "Pocahontas" because of my long hair. I chose these images because someone who does not know me could easily look at these pictures and get a feel for who I am. Every detail is not included but I did include what I wanted the world to see and know about me.

Images and identity in our society are not as closely linked as we would like them to be. The images that we put forth are usually different from reality or our true identity. We tend to pose while we are in front of others and act as if we are "Ms. Goody-Two-Shoes". In reality, we all struggle towards the same goal; happiness. Society usually judge people on their financial situation whether they are low class, middle class, or upper class. We seem not to care about the persons actual personality. Instead, we make life a competition of who has what. Images do not show true identity. It shows what we want our true identity to be. It shows how we want others to view us.

Something That I do on the Regular

Eating is something that I do everyday. I may eat more than your average person (don't let the size fool you). When I am not eating a meal, I am at least snacking on something. It is my favorite thing to do. Eating is something that everyone has in common but we differ in how much we eat, when we eat, and what we eat.

Random Post

Well, I am still trying to figure out who I would like to work with for my project. Since schools are automatically non-profit organizations, I may as well work with one. My topic is about obese kids in middle schools. Hopefully, I can work closely with a school and make a lot of changes within the school system.

Capitalism Reflection!

Personally, I am not big on politics. This film was actually interesting because of the different clips added. He explained things perfectly and dealt with everyday people. It was a very funny movie. When it showed people losing their jobs and homes, it woke me up. That was very emotional. The economy has been on a downward spiral, yes, I am aware of that. But I was not aware on how bad it was doing until I saw this movie. Pictures, the music, and the statistics all left me in awe and had me thinking about what kind of country we really live in. Is America really "the home of the free"?

Summary & Reflection of What I Learned

This week, we have learned what we need to include in our writing. People who read our work must be able to point out the intended audience & the purpose of it. Also, when writing a rhetorical analysis, one must persuade others of how you view something. We must read images for their powerful meanings & subliminal messages. When writing a thesis statement, we must point out the main point & what we are trying to get across to the reader. The thesis must also be arguable as well.

This ad is used to encourage preventative medicine known back then as a "prophylaxis". Many people mess around with each other without thinking about their health. This affects their lifestyle when they realize that their health is declining. This ad gives those who are sexually active an idea of what could happen. The young, beautiful woman on this ad gives the reader an idea that even though someone may look clean, they may not be. It says, "You may think she's your gal but she may be everyone's pal". This means that whoever you are with may be with people other than you. Therefore, do what's right; get prophylaxis to be on the "safe side".

Reading & Writing

I usually write when I have things on my mind that I do not want to share with others. I keep a journal that I write in daily. Writing music is also a hobby of mine as it expresses my personality, likes, and dislikes. I do not like to read at all. The only time i read is when I have a homework assignment that requires it. When I read or write, I like to be alone in a quiet environment with soft music playing. My surroundings at the time must be clean or else I will get easily distracted.
